Law of the devil chapter 07

Chapter 7 “Sexy Babe with the Long slender Legs”

Eventually one of the drunks in the tavern couldn’t his male urge and got up. Wobbling over to the lady in question, his hand reaches out to make a grab for tender flesh: “Hey there missy, wanna…”

But before the sentence could even come to completion, the bulky warrior of the four have already taken action and knocked the fool out the door behind themselves. Naturally this invoked a series of laughter from the others inside the small establishment, this included Du Wei’s knights as well who watched the whole thing unfold from their tables.

As for the young noble himself, his eyes were filled with curiosity now. A warrior, an archer, and a mage surrounding the girl at the centre, she’s likely the leader of the party then…. Can it be! Is this the so-called party of adventurers from those fantasy tales? But what’s a mage doing in such a group?

After learning about this world through the books he read, Du Wei knew there existed various groups of people in the wild similar to mercenaries. The big parties are said to be hovering around several hundred members high while smaller ones are like this, three to four in size.

Due to frequent attacks from magic beasts appearing in the southern forests of the empire, it’s common to find parties of adventurers gathered together for the hunt. If their luck was good, the rewards could even be considered extravagant from these dangerous endeavours. Also, some local lords would on occasion hire such people to capture thieves and such if the demand requires of them so the life of an adventurer didn’t lack jobs. Even so, there were no adventurer guild like in the stories here. Not because a need wasn’t there, rather the figures in power wouldn’t permit such an organization from coming into existence.

But enough of that, back to the main object of concern. From what Du Wei knows, there should only be several hundred mages in all of the Roland Empire, perhaps bordering on a thousand, but that’s nowhere enough in terms of their numbers. So why, why would an entity of such rarity join such a shabby party when he could ask for so much more from a noble lord?

To be clear, it’s not uncommon to find local lords of the empire employing low ranking mages into their ranks. The pay would of course be very high, that’s a given, but it’s the extra benefits that truly makes one salivate.

Eventually, the new entries were able to find themselves a table at the furthest corner of the tavern after deciding its safe to do so. But that didn’t change the attitude of the patrons already inside though, nay, it only roused a stronger reaction of flaunting remarks at the haughty girl. In particular were Du Wei’s knows who held the strongest interest.

It couldn’t be helped. The knights weren’t in their best of moods after being banished so they needed a hole to vent the frustration. Now what better yet then after a few boozes and a fine lady to let loose?

“Look at those legs, my god, I have never seen prettier ones than those. This sexy damsel would probably fetch a hundred gold at the capital’s brothel!” One of the knights exclaim under the effect of the barley beer.

“Are you daft you fool? A HUNDRED! Have you ever been to one of those brothels? The cheapest whore there would set your pocket back three times that number!” His companion loudly refutes the other, letting everyone hear his words.

“So you think she’s that pretty? I say she’s average at best in the face, but those legs though…. Hoho!” Making a whistling sound, Du Wei finally chimes in to take part as well.

“….”

Naturally the knights were quite taken aback by their young lord’s unruly comment. It’s too out of character, especially after how quiet the boy’s been throughout their journey.

Wasn’t he a retard according to the rumors?

Oh god what have we done!

We’re screwed now to say something like that in front of a noble!

These were the sort of things running through the knights head right now.

“What is it? Are you guys still men or what?” Scoffing a laugh like an adult, “She’s only one girl, and you are knights. Are you going to tell me a group of knights can only sit around and talk about their object of desire while the one sitting there tempts you with her pronounced looks and shimmering butt? Fine, I will give ten gold to whoever is courageous enough to make a move against her!”

Now this was what they were waiting for. Bellowing out a hearty laugh, these men at the bottom of the barrel are now fully riled up after getting a seemingly invisible connection with their liege.

“Milord, you can give me the reward then. I’m going to take you up on that offer!” A knight speaks out, shouting at the four adventurers whose minding their own business in the corner, “Hey missy, how about I buy you a drink eh?!”

Apparently enraged by the flirtatious tease, the sexy woman wanted to jump up to confront the bastard who dared to fling the taunt. However, the companions at her table clearly had a better understanding of the situation. Their fingers quickly directed to Du Wei’s location when they muttered something into the girl’s ear, causing the heated maiden to deflate unwillingly.

For the courageous knight who was deprived of a response, corrected…. For the courageous “man” who didn’t get a proper rejection, its only right he go for a second swing as any proper heated animal would do. However, it appears Du Wei wasn’t done at this level of fun and raised the bet.

First was the taunting whistle of a pervert, then a flick of his middle finger at the four to insult them….

For the people responsible for this little troublemaker, they would of course be shocked beyond belief by the sight. Never in their life have they seen such vulgarity, especially from a house of such respect like the Earl’s.

Now the sexy looking adventurer has finally lost it. Moving before anyone could react, a cup was tossed at Du Wei’s face with fire in the act.

Thankfully the family knights of the Rowling House weren’t for show either. Even if they were expelled like their young lord, they were still highly skilled for their rank. Catching the flying object in the nick of time, the men were able to stop any direct damage from being done. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop the liquid from pouring out though, thus causing the boy’s sleeve to become sullied with alcohol.

Without surprise or deviation from the script of old, swords were promptly drawn with twenty heavily armed men closing in on the four adventurers in the corner. Very soon, a full-on brawl ensues within this small tiny tavern. Some fled from the ruckus, too afraid to get involved, but more stayed to observe the fight with happy cheers in the background.

First up was once again the bulky warrior who took on six of Du Wei’s bodyguard at once. Sure, the men were a little high from the booze after loosening up, but that doesn’t mean they are holding back during this fight.

One punch here, two punch there, and a bash on the head overhead, eventually even the big brute had fallen victim to a nose bleed at the expense of knocking out one of his opponents from Du Wei’s party.

But the one to have it the worse had to be the archer. His profession certainly gives him the advantage over long range, but its way too cramped in here, making him no different from an unarmed man. The only weapon at the archer’s disposal now was a dagger. A tiny blade against multiple foes with the sword, it’s not hard to imagine the swift outcome.

Seeing the deteriorating situation, the sexy lady knew they mustn’t drag this out. So, her eyes soon fell upon Du Wei’s existence. In an agile jump by bypassing one of the knight’s heavy swing, the woman practically pounced at the boy. Unfortunately for her, Du Wei’s men weren’t blind either and easily knocked her back with a toss of a table. That left the girl wide open upon tumbling down to the ground and allowing one of the knights to slash down at her chest. If not for that enchanted armor giving off a spark of light to repel the blade, some serious wounds would’ve befallen the lady today.

As for the magician whose been hiding in the furthest corner the entire time, the average looking mage finally got serious upon witnessing the girl’s failure in capturing the boy. Raising his hand in a gloomy display, he starts drawing some sort of symbol in the air while chanting a weird language from his mouth. Almost instantaneously, a spell circle materialized around his fingers and causes the Rowling knights to falter in their actions like they were being significantly hindered by some unknown force.

The tides have changed following this and it was the knights turn to start taking damage due to their sluggish swings.

Instead of panicking though, Du Wei on the other hand only had sparkles of excitement in his eyes, Slow magic! This is real magic!

Not minding the strange look coming his way from the young noble, the mage continued to wave his finger around. Next was a fireball that came hurling over at the knights. Though one of the braver souls managed to slash down at the flaming mass of heat and splitting it in half, the residual embers still managed to catch onto the others.

Now the knights were at a serious disadvantage from being bombarded by a hail of fireballs.

Something’s not right here, the mage there already casted eight consecutive fireballs in a row….

Du Wei may not know how much power a level one mage had at their disposal but there’s no way he would believe it’s at such a high calibre. Furthermore, he’s noticed something odd about the way the man was casting his spells. There’s no spell chanting, and the speed, it’s too fast! This definitely didn’t match up with the mage’s level based on that crest he’s wearing.

Understanding its time he’s got involved as well, Du Wei did the most predictable thing a person of his background knew to do – close the space gap between him and the mage. Since casters are infamous for their weak combat skills, this was the best tactic he could come up with.

Not waiting, the boy took a booze bottle and threw it at his target to create a opening. The mage dodged without much trouble of course, but that’s already enough of a break to allow his little assailant to close the distance on him.

There’s no fault in this tactic, it’s downright perfect, however, Du Wei forgot something very crucial to his plan – he’s only thirteen. No matter how weak a mage was at its core, a child fighting an adult still meant he’s at a disadvantage. Good thing he’s not alone. Following a loud smashing sound of wood against flesh, it was Marde standing there in a panic with a table leg in hand.

Now, without the support of magic to help the three remaining adventurers, it didn’t take much for the knights to completely subdue the lot and letting the fight come to an end.

First finding an intact chair to take a seat, Du Wei then took the time to get a better understanding of these people. First off, its as he suspected, they were ordinary adventurers relying on their brute strength to make a living. None of these people knew how to wield the power of Dou Qi.

So they even chose the worst possible men for me eh, that’s why they couldn’t even handle four measly foes….

Ignoring the dissatisfaction inside, Du Wei turns his attention over to the lady, studying her armor by staring at it. He’s read numerous books on magic so its easy for him to recognize there were at least two enchantments on the plate, one added agility and the other added strength.

An armor with two enchants would cost a lot even in the imperial city. How can this girl with such low combat skills get ahold of such armor?

Then shifting his attention over to the scimitar, he could see the blade wasn’t so simple either. It’s encrusted with a jewel of some sort capable of storing magic molecules inside. And let’s not forget the bow, the most valuable item of them with the silver arrows. Its no secret silver wasn’t good for physical combat, too flimsy and soft as an alloy, but it did have one pronounce property and that was its anti-magic characteristics.

It’s widely known in this realm that certain alloys are naturally imbued with magic resistant properties so that meant this bow are meant to fight against magic users.

How did she come across so many amazing equipment?

“Take off her armor,” Du Wei causally orders.

He was thinking of studying the magical items in private, but it appears his words have caused a misunderstanding among his followers. “Uh, milord, if we were to strip her here, wouldn’t….” One of the knights speaks up from reflex.
