Law of the Devil chapter 20 part 2

Chapter 20 “Half Horn City’s Magic Beast Incident” (part two)

Du Wei refuses to listen to the persuasion of his subordinates, and what gave Robert the biggest headache of all was how dead set this young lord seemed at seeing the magic beast in the mountains.

Now the sight coming off from Robert towards Sir Spann wasn’t so friendly anymore. He knew his current predicament fell mostly on this fellow’s head. If the young lord suffered even the slightest bit of harm…… Even if he was just scared, Robert would have to take responsibility himself!

Even if the young lord gave a good impression by not putting on air during the journey and treating everyone mildly friendly, going to the mountain to look for magic beasts definitely appeared to Robert like that of a child’s willful troublemaking!

But there was nothing to be done. Sighing, Robert could only secretly resolve to staying close to the master’s side after entering the mountain and relying on the sword in his hand to ensure the master’s safety.

Moreover, in such an agrarian region, it’s safe to presume there wouldn’t be any high level magic beast.

Robert was consoling himself, but he couldn’t deny this consolation was effective. On the Roland continent, creatures like magic beasts followed a peculiar rule.

Magic beasts were generally a kind of wild animal that could innately use magic, and the strength of a magic beast could be estimated with an odd rule: According to the current knowledge about magic beasts in general, the danger level of these creatures were inversely proportional to its size.

In other words, the bigger the magic beast was, the weaker the creature would be under normal assumptions. Really dangerous ones were actually very!

Since this Spann said the nearby creature appeared to be large in size, his martial skill should be able to cope with it.

But right now Spann couldn’t help feeling like he had passed the point of no return. Compared to the issue of the magic beast, he was more concerned about this young master’s safety.

While Du Wei had already declared his intent of accompanying them…… Spann would rather not have the help of these people now.

But Du Wei had already declared it, and his meaning was very clear. Even if Spann refused his good intentions, he knew this young kid would instead bring his people up the mountain, with or without him! After considering it and weighing his options, Spann figured it would be better if they went together. Like that they would at least have more people, and it would be safer with more numbers on their side.

?

Those mercenaries were rather efficient. When half an hour had elapsed, twenty mercenaries were waiting by the inn’s gate. And Du Wei had the servants stay behind to look after things while he brought two squads of cavalrymen with him on this hunt.

Du Wei was wearing light armor. Even if it seemed a bit weak, it allowed the others to feel a bit relieved know there’s some form of protection. Rolynn knew they were entering the mountain on a magic beast hunt —— work she had experienced before. Hunting magic beasts for coin was a very common source of income for adventurers on the continent.

Spann finally gathered twenty people from the Half Horn City garrison. Thus he had finally, with much difficulty, managed to assemble eighty to ninety arms of men. Even if some were a bit weak, looking at the bright armor and superior weapons of the Rowling guards, Spann was still satisfied.

Worthy of the imperial army, after the two highest level knights, Spann and Robert, talked it over; they decided to split the troops into three teams. Moreover, the local military, mercenaries, and Rowling guards were distributed by their types. Like this, each group would be balanced out with both skirmisher and archers.

Two of the groups were commanded by Spann’s lieutenants, while Spann himself and Sir Robert both stayed at Du Wei’s side.

Spann had made up his mind, even if this assignment was a failure; he still had to one hundred percent guarantee the safety of the young lord! Otherwise, if the eldest son of the imperial military’s second commander suffered a tiny bit of mishap under his protection, then perhaps all his life’s work would come to nothing! By comparison, catching a magic beast became unimportant.

Worth mentioning though was that the other two groups only had twenty men each, while forty subordinates were assigned to Du Wei. Among them were thirty Rowling guardsmen and ten of Spann’s elite archers.

Spann even gave Du Wei a precious military crossbow for self-protection since he noticed the young lord was likely unfamiliar with the bow. With a military crossbow, his safety factor could still increase a bit.

Like this, Du Wei’s group consisted of forty elite soldiers (Rowling family guardsmen’s quality could definitely compare to the regular army), as well as two fourth level knights, and a licensed magician.

Such a fighting force was significant by any standard!

The three groups left the city immediately, entering the mountain by three separate routes to search in their respective directions. Each group carried a few things Du Wei recognized, like signal flares and etc. Once any group found the magic beast, they would be responsible for pinning it on the spot while summoning the others.

In the end the three groups were to converge on the center of Half Horn Mountain.

Du Wei rode into Half Horn Mountain surrounded by a crowd of escorts – this fellow seems to be blinded to his inconvenience to everyone else…… Or more precisely, he knew but played dumb.

After the heavily armed subordinates entered Half Horn Mountain, they promptly fanned out to either side and started searching for any signs of suspicious activity. Meanwhile, Spann and Robert, kept a strict guard at Du Wei’s side.

The magic beast’s track was first discovered by a hunter from a small village on the southern slope of the mountain. According to Spann’s explanation on the way, when the local hunters started to spot footprints in the forest, they mistook it for a large wild animal that had made its way into the mountainous woods. Gathering a few experienced hunters, they began to track it. But once they found its footprints on the south mountainside, they realized they were facing a magic beast and ran back to inform the city garrison. According to their tale, the magic beast was enormous, the size of a lion or tiger. While they were too far away to see just what kind of magic beast it was, they figured it was no common animal from its shining contour.

Following the road into the forested mountain, everyone dismounted out of necessity, including Du Wei. Fanning out, the soldiers searched both sides of their path and had five highly skilled soldiers act as vanguard for the group.

Under these circumstances, Du Wei can forget about seeing a magic beast, he be lucky to find a rabbit in the underbrush now that his every step was stomped flat by these men.

He’s bored stiff. Aside from the thick greenery and occasional bird chirping, there’s nothing here. That’s when he spotted the nervous looking Spann. Smiling, he understood why this knight was so upset.

“Sir Spann, may I ask if you’ve encountered magic beasts before?”

Spann looked startled by his sudden question. Pondering for a moment, he answered: “I have, I once served in the northern Imperial Storm Wind Legion for four years and was posted on the eastern edges of the ‘Frozen Forest’ up in the north. The Frozen Forest is well known as one of the most magic beast haunted places on the continent. During that time, I once encountered a few while on patrol. Fortunately, the magic beasts roaming the edges of the forest were all low level, not much of a danger to humans. Whenever we went on patrol, we never dared penetrate deeply into the forest because those high level magic beasts in the forest aren’t something common soldiers can deal with.”

Du Wei thought about it: “Then, what do magic beasts look like?”

Spann muttered like someone talking to themselves: “Magic beasts are really just some wild animals, but they’re much more ferocious than ordinary animals. Normal animals just use their claws and fangs to attack, but magic beasts have the innate ability to use low level magic, making them a lot more difficult to deal with.”

“Then, have you personally killed a magic beast?”

Spann blushed, lowering his voice: “Young master Du Wei, in those days I was merely a second level knight. With my skills I couldn’t possibly have killed a magic beast alone. However, the first time my squad went out on patrol, we encountered a terrible creature. It was a creature unique to the Frozen Forest of the north, known as a ‘Storm Demon Wolf’. That creature was incredibly fast, arrows couldn’t hurt it and its fur could instantly turn to ice that’s as hard as our armor, making our blades ineffective. Furthermore, it could summon wind blades with its howl, very difficult to deal with. When our squad encountered it, even ten soldiers weren’t enough to match its ferocity…… I remember that fight four of my companions died, and each of the survivors was also injured in the process. In the end our squad captain had to endure one of those wind blades to his body in order to sever the demon wolf’s tail….. The weak point of that creature was its tail, if it loses its tail, their magic will weaken. Afterwards, we skinned the animal for its fur and took its core. Both are valuable and the core could fetch a good price in the market. Magicians are fond of cores from magic beasts since it could be used as a tool for storing magic energy, and they’re also used in the manufacturing of magic scrolls.”

As Spann recalled his youth, he couldn’t resist sighing with regret: “I remember while I was posted by the Frozen Forest, every month there would be many adventuring parties heading into the forest to hunt magic beasts for money, against our advice of course. However, a third of them never came out alive. I don’t know how many people have died in the Frozen Forest, even magicians have died inside.”

Du Wei exhaled, looking at Solskjaer by his side.

Both knew that magicians wouldn’t hunt magic beasts for coin, but the cores held an exceptional deep attraction to magicians for their uses varied greatly as ingredients or materials.

While Spann spoke, he used his sword to split a forking branch on the path and spoke with a smile: “Don’t worry, young master Du Wei. The bigger the magic beast, the weaker it is. When we encounter this creature it shouldn’t be too dangerous. With me…… Ehh, with the Rowling guardsmen here as well, we will definitely keep you from harm.”

Du Wei nodded and declined to comment, he would rather look straight at the taciturn Robert: “Then how about you Robert? Have you killed a magic beast before?”

Robert’s expression grew serious, and after a moment he pushed aside his thick curly hair to reveal his neck.

Du Wei discovered that there was an astonishing wound on Robert’s neck! It was clearly a scar made by a skewering motion, as if something had been ruthlessly stabbed into his neck! Even if the injury was old, and clearly a very long time had passed, the scar remains red to showcase how severe the wound originally had been!

“I got this from a magic beast.” Robert’s tone was gloomy: “I was once in the southern ‘Sunset Marsh’, and our group encountered a flock of Griffons in the swamps.”

Du Wei didn’t speak, but Sir Spann to his side, as well as Solskjaer and even Rolynn behind them, all gasped! Spann even cried out: “A flock of Griffons? Heaven, how did you survive?”

“Griffons? Is this some kind of very dangerous creature?” Du Wei asked.

Solskjaer shook his head: “More than dangerous, Griffons are a kind of flying animal, even if they’re not considered as bad as those legendary ferocious beasts, Griffons are still widely accepted as one of the most difficult to deal with. It’s a bird type magic beast, about the size of an ordinary eagle, but it can make a roaring sound like a lion, its feathers are as hard as steel, its talons can easily scratch our armor, its beak can even break the sword in a knight’s hand with a peck…… Most troublesome was how it can circle in the air and be immune to our arrows due to its solid feathers. Then there’s its call. The cry of a Griffon can drive people into a panic, if more powerful, it could even knock their prey unconscious.”

“Spirit type offensive magic?” Du Wei drew a breath.

“What’s frightening is that if you just encounter one Griffon, they’re not much of a problem…… But this magic beast has one unique characteristic that made it stand out among others…… It’s a pack animal! In other words, this troublesome creature moves in groups. In the southern marshes, even a small army would choose to retreat when facing a flock of these things because if a large group of such ferocious creatures acted together and attacked from the sky, it’s incredibly difficult to defend against.”

Rolynn frowned as she looked at the wound on Robert’s neck: “How did you survive?”

Robert shook his head: “At first I thought I was dead. That time half of us died in the swamp. My neck was scratched once by a Griffon, and its talons practically skewered my neck. But after that we found a hollow tree in the swamp where we hid for a full day. The entrance to the hollow wasn’t large, and once those creatures lost their air superiority and couldn’t attack from the sky, our situation improved a bit. Relying on defending the narrow entrance, we held out until the Griffons left. Finally, a rescue team from the family rushed over and brought us back, and my life was saved.”

Pausing, a sad expression flashed across Robert’s face: “My younger brother died there that day. Like me, his neck was punctured by a Griffon, but he didn’t have my luck and lost his head.”

Du Wei’s heart shook. Looking at Robert, he promptly spoke in a low voice: “I’m sorry, Sir Robert, I didn’t know……”

“No, it’s nothing.” The knight shook his head, forcing a smile: “It’s an old story; moreover, since we swore loyalty to the family, we were always ready to lay down our lives for the clan at any time.”

Everyone felt a deep respect for Sir Robert; even Rolynn couldn’t resist giving him a meaningful look. But the female knight quickly raised a question: “Lord Robert, lord Spann, I have a question.”

“What is it? Please speak, dame Rolynn.” Spann treated this female knight following the young noble respectfully.

Slowly, Rolynn explains: “According to what I know, while magic beasts do live in forested terrains, they will very rarely live at the center of the continent. Magic beasts require nourishment from magic sources found in the environment; therefore they will only live on peculiar places at the edges of the continent, like the northern Frozen Forest and the southern Sunset Marsh for example. Those places are filled with all sorts of magic plants…… They’re also places where magic pharmacists find ingredients for their concoctions. And perhaps some places that produce some kind of special minerals would attract magic beasts into their surroundings. But…… There’s only a regular forest on Half Horn Mountain, there are no magic plants, just some ordinary pines and maples, and there are no special minerals either. Then, doesn’t it seem strange that a magic beast would suddenly appear here?”

Spann and Robert both halted in their step, their expressions grim. Even the magician Solskjaer frowned at the thought.

“Rolynn, are you very familiar with magic beasts?” It was Du Wei who spoke up.

“I have a lot of adventuring days behind me. I even followed a few mercenary companies into the Frozen Forest to hunt magic beasts.” Rolynn explained: “As a result, I’m perhaps the one here with the most experience.”

“You’ve entered the northern Frozen Forest?” Sir Spann showed an astonished look. To him, this female knight was more befitting a beauty that had bedded her way to the title of honorary knight from this young lord. Never in his mind did he expect Rolynn to actually have such a deep history!

Even Robert changed colors.

Rolynn whispered: “That’s right; I’ve entered a few times.”

“I’m not all too well acquainted with the habits of magic beasts, if what dame Rolynn says is true…… Then perhaps we should rethink the situation.” Robert lowered his voice: “The appearance of a magic beast really is suspicious.”

But Spann, even if he didn’t say anything, had a somewhat doubtful expression.

Clearly Spann wasn’t convinced by Rolynn’s story.

An experienced knight like Spann could see the skill level of this female knight, and he had determined her skill wasn’t brilliant. Receiving the favor of a noble young master must have been the result of her pretty face…… And those long legs.

Entering the Frozen Forest several times? Bullshit!

After searching for an entire afternoon, everyone had come up empty handed, no footprint or excrement.

There’s no news from the other two search parties either.

Looking up at the color of the sky and the descending sun, Sir Spann proposed they should take a rest first then return to town by taking advantage of the remaining daylight. His plan was to continue the search early next morning, but this proposal was completely out of consideration for Du Wei’s welfare.

If it hadn’t been for this honorable young master, Spann would have continued the search throughout the night. However, when bringing along a young kid that cannot be offended, and mustn’t be harmed, Spann wouldn’t dare act rashly and put safety before all. Otherwise, the danger would increase when searching for a magic beast in the middle of the night up at the mountains

As they rested, Robert arranged for a few people to watch their surroundings, and Spann dispatched two archers to climb the trees to keep a lookout.

“Rolynn.” Looking at Rolynn who was just about to sort out her saddle, Du Wei suddenly called out to the girl.

“Do you have any command, milord?”

“I believe you.” Du Wei spoke in a low voice, his words making Rolynn jolt. The lady knight inclined her head to look at Du Wei.

Leisurely smiling, Du Wei played with some unknown flower in his hand: “I know Sir Spann doesn’t believe you, he thinks you’re a loudmouth.”

Rolynn smiled bitterly.

Just a loudmouth? More like he thought of her as a lowly whore who had relied on her charm and body to become a knight.

Furthermore, it wasn’t just Spann. Perhaps the majority of the accompanying Rowling family soldiers thought much the same……

Rolynn felt helplessly weak.

“I believe you.” Du Wei continues as took a few steps forward. Looking at Rolynn’s helpless expression, he smilingly said: “Because by lucky coincidence, I know you’re a descendant of the Muen clan. And by an equally lucky coincidence, I once read in an antique book about the Muen clan’s innate ability. If the accounts in that book aren’t mistaken…… I believe that entering the Frozen Forest wouldn’t be difficult for you. Even a pile of magic beasts wouldn’t pose much of a threat to you.”

Rolynn was becoming more and more astonished, and involuntarily cried out: “This…… You know?”

“Books.” Du Wei smiled: “Books are the wellspring of humanity’s knowledge. There will always be benefits to reading books.”

While speaking, this half sized noble reached Rolynn’s side and lightly patted her on the shoulder: “My lady knight, we will have to make great efforts our actions. Otherwise we would let others hold us in contempt. Like today, don’t tell me you didn’t see? They all thought of me as an inconvenience. But you, are my first honorary knight, we both have to make great efforts for an acceptable appearance.”

Rolynn cautiously watched this half sized young master, but as these words reached her ear, she couldn’t help but feel a warm current spreading through her heart!

Yes! They all thought of me as a woman who slept her way up! And the one who truly respects me, believes in me, was this little master in front of me!

Rolynn bowed her head deeply to Du Wei, speaking in a low trembling voice: “Yes, my lord. I, Rolynn will definitely make great efforts; I definitely won’t bring shame to you!”

Spann immediately gathered everyone after the break in preparation to leave the mountain. He had a signal fired into the sky to link up with the other two teams, and very quickly the other parties responded. Unexpectedly, one of the other teams was very close to their position, just half a kilometer or so judging by their returning signal.

The two knights immediately ordered everyone into formation to converge with their companions.

And after everyone had walked for half an hour, Sir Robert who walked at the very forefront could see their comrades waving at them.

Just at this moment, a mournful howl came from the side! They immediately caught sight of an enormous silhouette swiftly heading towards them from the side! The whole body of this massive creature was covered in burning flames, and the ground and trees on either side of its path were scorched as it passed!

“…… Magic beast?!” Whoever it was that first called this out immediately alarmed the group to this sudden invader!

“In formation!!” A steady call came from behind everyone. Sir Robert had drawn his broadsword: “Don’t panic! In formation, flank it on both sides! Don’t let it escape! Archers get ready! Front line raise your shields!” He shouts in a loud voice.

A series of commands swiftly left Robert’s mouth. Most of the people here were after all guardsmen of the Rowling clan, and Robert’s majestic voice immediately steadied everyone.

Spann wasn’t slow to act either. He had assembled the archers by now and ordered them to climb the trees.

They didn’t know what was going on with that magic beast either. Against expectations it had come running out into the open as if there’s no fear in confronting so many humans.

Now, Du Wei finally got what he wished for, seeing a magic beast with his own eyes.

This creature was even bigger than what Du Wei imagined. No smaller than an elephant with a massive horn on its forehead, this creature had thick, course hides and four sturdy hooves as it plowed through the mud like it was flying. Nothing could impede its movement. Bashing left and right to clear all obstacles in its path, this animal kept issuing mourning howls as it rampaged forward with flames emitting off its body!

Such a grotesque and enormous creature, flames burning all over, made it very difficult for the defenders to cut it off. The soldiers raising their shields didn’t dare block it head on and could only helplessly get out of the way. The archers in the trees fired arrow after arrow, but those had no effect.

Fortunately this creature was so enormous that its running speed remains relatively slow, and after some shouting and fussing, the soldiers organized themselves well enough to raise a defensive line of long pikes to menace it from a distance.

“No need to be afraid, it’s just a Flame Rhinoceros.” The speaker was Rolynn, relaxing slightly at her own words. This lady knight held her post by Du Wei’s side, and even took half a step forward to shield him. Her voice wasn’t loud, apparently only explaining for Du Wei’s sake: “The Flame Rhinoceros is only considered to be a magic beast of the lowest level, besides its raw strength and the flames it emits, there’s nothing scary about it. Moreover its running speed is quite slow, as long as there are a few skilled archers it will be nothing more than a burning pincushion.”

Rolynn’s words were overheard by Robert who immediately issued his orders in a loud voice: “Raise the pikes! Pin it down!”

This Flame Rhinoceros ran a few steps more before discovering its path blocked off by rows of pikes from all sides. As much as it wanted to charge out of the entrapment, the creature knew better to do otherwise. Its skin may be thick and sturdy, but that’s still far from being impervious to a blade. Issuing another series of monstrous howls, the Flame Rhinoceros had no other choice but to stop and turn for another path. However, its slow moving speed left the creature exposed.

The soldiers swiftly outflanked it from the sides, quickly blocking its path again. At the same time the archers shot it from the trees, and even if the arrows didn’t do much damage, they were numerous, and several flights of arrows ended up pinned to its back.

The Flame Rhinoceros was besieged by the human encirclement for several more times, each time its range of movement growing smaller and smaller, while its calls grew more and more fretful. At this moment, this was when Du Wei’s subordinate magician Solskjaer acted.

The magician had been preparing for this opportunity. With both hands raised, several fireballs launched at the Flame Rhinoceros with a whizzing sound after he waves his sleeves.

In an enormous bang, several fireballs accurately struck the magic beast body in front of everyone, and under the intense radiating light, everyone was forced to close their eyes.

An indignant and irreconcilable howl resonated. Suddenly, the whole body of the flaming creature erupted into red streaks of light! Uttering another cry under everyone’s attentive gaze…..

It disappeared!!

Numerous soldiers stared blankly at the outcome, but soon broke into bursts of cheer!

It seems this magician was indeed as awesome as the rumor says, vanquishing this creature with just one move!

Sadly, these ignorant soldiers didn’t discover the vacant and baffled expression on Solskjaer’s own face.

Disappeared?

He merely used the fireball spell, but even if fireballs could burn the creature to death, it would still leave a corpse behind!

Common soldiers wouldn’t understand this, but fourth level knights like Robert and Spann would!

The moment the Flame Rhinoceros disappeared, the two of them became astonished and unsettled. And once the cheering started, Robert immediately hollered out in a very loud voice: “Everyone step back! Be careful!!”

Du Wei also looked distracted. The moment he saw the magic beast disappearing, he couldn’t resist asking: “Rolynn, would the corpse of a magic beast like this disappear after its death?”

“No!” Rolynn also changed colors: “This creature…… I’ve never heard of the body disappearing.”

At this moment a blue flame abruptly shot up in the spot where the Flame Rhinoceros had fallen! Immediately afterwards, a penetratingly howl resonated from within the flame!

This was clearly the howl of a wolf!

Afterwards, an enormous animal suddenly leapt out of the flames at the speed of the wind! With icy blue fur like they were comprised of tiny crystals, the body of this creature held enormous power with those razor sharp claws.

Just after catching sight of it, several soldiers were already screaming in pain….

The wolf howled, and blades of wind could be seen forming in its mouth!

“Storm Demon Wolf! It’s a Storm Demon Wolf!!” Spann cried out in alarm. The knight’s expression changed enormously, his face covered with fear.

This creature that had suddenly appeared was actually the one Spann had talked about before, the Storm Demon Wolf he had once encountered and sacrificed the lives of several comrades to kill!

But making Spann afraid wasn’t this magic wolf itself…… Rather, the circumstances surrounding its entrance.

He had never heard of a Flame Rhinoceros transforming into a Storm Demon Wolf after dying!

It was too late to reflect on it now, this demon wolf indeed had crystal like fur mentioned by Spann, difficult to harm with blades! It was also exceptionally nimble, adding in its razor sharp teeth and claws, many soldiers were screaming miserably under its paws.

And those wind blades it had launched were originally aimed at two soldiers holding shields. The shields in their hands burst apart, and the two were sent flying as of the resulting impact!

Du Wei saw it all clearly from the distance, and couldn’t resist gasping: What a ferocious creature!

“Rolynn, do magic beasts transform? Does Flame Rhinoceroses transform into other kinds of creatures? But these two creatures are so different on the outside.”

“No! Milord, something’s fishy! This magic beast, it seems…… I don’t know what it is. It is absolutely no ordinary Flame Rhinoceros!” Rolynn’s face was gloomy. Shielding Du Wei with her sword in hand, her eyes tightly fixed on the demon wolf at the distance.

With a great shout, Robert charged forward with large strides, his broadsword raised and transformed in a silver light! Facing the demon wolf, he slashes down with haste.

Du Wei’s eyes glittered in the distance: “Battle Dou Qi!”

The demon wolf also seems to respond to the danger of the light at Robert’s sword tip. It didn’t dare take the hit directly and instead shook its body, throwing itself to the side and clawing at Robert’s chest and shoulder.

Roaring loudly, Robert bent his body like a bow in return. Holding the broadsword horizontally, he thrusts at the belly of the wolf as light separated from the tip of his sword.

This demon wolf was indeed ferocious. It could even change directions in midair! Twisting its upper body, it managed to avoid Robert’s attack infused with battle Dou Qi, and after landing the wolf immediately struck at Robert’s arm in retaliation!

Robert grunted as lines of blood seeped out from his arm, fortunately the demon wolf’s wariness of the sword left Robert’s injury on the mild side.

At this moment a shout echoed from behind as Spann made his move in the distance! He snatched a pike from one of the soldiers to his side and threw it hard!

The pike flew like a shooting star, firmly striking the demon wolf’s back! Only problem, the metallic sound of the weapon deflecting off the animal could be heard with crisp clarity, indicating how tough the fur was!

But even if it had endured Spann’s throwing spear attack, it remains unpleasant for the creature. The force sent it rolling several turns on the ground, and once it got back to its feet, it’s speed seem slower, apparently having taken some damage.

“Solskjaer, act now!” Robert shouted loudly. Raising his sword again, he swung it continuously to force back the demon wolf.

The distant magician hurriedly raised his hands again as he summoned his spell, once again quickly launching several fireballs.

Bang bang bang bang bang!

Balls of flame rained down continuously, many smashing into the ground with only three striking the wolf’s body.

The demon wolf was clearly repelled by the assault, and with a loud howl it became more and more frustrated.

Robert had caught up to its side by then, watching and waiting for an opportunity to strike. Then the moment came, he chopped down at the magic beast’s tail!

Robert had clearly remembered what Spann mentioned earlier about the tail being the weak point of the Storm Demon Wolf!

Sure enough, after the sword severed the demon wolf’s tail, it collapsed on the ground with a howl. But immediately afterwards, Robert looked to the tip of his sword and saw a burst of brilliant light!

After the explosive beams, not only had the corpse disappeared, even the severed tail had vanished!

Disappeared? This pattern again?

Du Wei screams with great urgency in the distance,: “Everyone be careful, this thing might transform again!”

Robert’s expression was also strict with alarm. Just as he was about to speak up……

Suddenly, a roar echoed from afar – a roar like that of a lion’s!

Following the first came the next, then the next, all sounding similarly the same. To the receivers on the ground, this unknown number of lions gave the group the impression they were heading directly towards them.

“Don’t tell me it’s a flock of Griffons? Damn it, this isn’t the plains! Why would there be a large flock of Griffons in the forest?”

When Sir Robert listened to the approaching disturbance, he suddenly realized something. His expression instantly distorted, and he abruptly cried out madly: “Careful! Everyone be careful, it’s……”

Before he could finish his words, everyone in the vicinity could already see them, a flock of creatures diving towards them with wings spread wide in the sky! Filling the air, these creatures had razor sharp claws, deadly beaks, their feathers as hard as steel, as well as…. Calls like the roar of a lion!

“Griffons!! It’s a Griffon flock!!!”

As if a nightmare from the past had reappeared, Sir Robert’s face fell into despair! He had personally faced a flock of Griffons before, and that had been a horrifyingly bitter experience!

With their present strength, what awaited everyone in the face of this flock of terrifying creatures was nothing short of pure carnage and slaughter.

But the knight didn’t even get the chance to say anything before the blood-curdling screams started. Two soldiers had already been pierced by the sharp talons and thrown into the distance!

With sprays of gushing blood and falling flesh, the large flock of Griffons only kept their victims until they were high enough to drop them out of the sky….. Clearly out for blood.

Rolynn’s expression was also extremely unsightly. she grabbed Du Wei and pulled him to the ground……
